Baroque pearls were highly prized in Renaissance Era when they were not seen as misshapen products but rather as unique and mesmerizing natural forms. They were often used to form the bodies of figures and mythological animals. Probably the most famous Baroque pearl is the baby figurine in a gold cradle made for the Medici's in late 17th Century and now in the Pitti Museum, Florence.
